Would a possum make a good pet?

I've like always really wanted a possum. Imagine how cute it would look in its tiny possum sweater, mittens so it won't claw me, and just sitting in a cage. My mom says I can't get one because they're dangerous or something like that. WHATEVER. It would love me and not attack me. I'm pretty sure she's just scared because my brother got rabies from a possum once. Should I get a possum? And color should its outfits be?
