How do I get rid of a possum?

I'm at my cousins house and their is a possum in their back yard. Their dogs are cornering it but they won't do anything to it. It keeps hissing and snapping at the dogs. It's 2 in the morning so we can't call animal control. We need to get rid of the possum without hurting the dogs. The possum won't try to escape at all. I know they are slow but I hear they are good climbers. And the dogs have it cornered into a fence and in a mess of tree type things(you know the short ones that make flowers). We don't know if it's rabid or anything and we don't want to get hurt either. And we can't get the dogs into the house. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
