What's the meaning of the "cake" in Portal?

In the game "Portal", the character "Glados" (the sarcastic and sociopathic robotic antagonist of the game) promises you "cake" or something like that. Is this a metaphore? I.e., does it mean some kind of reward code-named "cake". Or does it mean physical cake, that you eat?
