Animal Poop in the pool, what to do.....?

When I lived in California and we had a pool in r back yard, a raccoon decided to dunk a rat into r pool and after the raccoon left, the rats head was left in the pool. I called my pool guy! He came over, shocked the pool and everything was fine. It's not poop but rats have bacteria and what not. Hope this helps. Ps my kids went swimming two days later bc the pool guy said we had to wait.
