Is it better to keep rabbits inside or outside of the house?

Or does it just depend on your preference because i have nice sized backyard where i could put a hutch and a pen but i do live in a suburbian area where we have cats that roam the streets and backyards ( although since its warm and more dogs are out we dont get them in our backyard hardly anymore) Also we sometimes although rarely if ever do we get possums or raccoons in our backyards at night so should i put a lock on the cage if i do decide to put it out or is it just better to keept them inside.
