Is it safe to eat a possum caught and killed in a suburban area?

I found one in my back yard and killed it with my crossbow. I butchered and skinned it and now it's in my freezer. I've read they're edible and taste pretty good. However, I'm afraid that since It caught it in a suburban area it may have ingested toxins like pesticides or rat poison recently.
